About Us
JJ Carson Press is a black-owned publishing company that was created to serve as a platform to celebrate stories of children of color. Our black main characters add an additional layer of richness and diversity to the traditional children’s literature space. Stories produced by JJ Carson Press also feature mental health and social-emotional components that help support the development of a well-rounded child.
Meet Our Founder
Ashley Finley, MSW is a mental health advocate, author, and entrepreneur. Ashley is a graduate of The University of Texas at Arlington and Barry University and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work. As a social worker and teacher, Ashley saw the importance of having social-emotional-focused children’s books that feature Black characters.
Ashley is now using her social work, counseling and teaching experience to create such stories that empower readers to connect with, respect, and value themselves and others around them. She founded JJ Carson Press to add an additional layer of richness and diversity to the children’s literature space. Ashley is also a native Texan, wife, and mother to two energetic young boys.
